The company was founded in 1988 with 4 employees and 1 service offering. With Mr. Frione’s guidance and leadership, the company quickly expanded to 6 service divisions, 160 employees and 4 offices throughout Florida. Throughout the 28 years in business, Mr. Frione has consistently found creative and innovative ways to expand and improve the business through creating a culture by team building, continuing education, investment of resources and business networking.

With his active involvement with Vistage Florida, Frank has further enhanced the corporate environment with strategic planning, management workshops and leadership training. Frank has always been a proactive leader by successfully positioning the firm with financial and business plans for the next 5, 10 and 15 years. In addition, Mr. Frione has taken the leadership role in the acquisitions of several other companies that have allowed GFA to steadily gain more market-share. Frank has also implemented numerous employee benefit programs including Corporate Chaplains, wellness fairs, 401k match, charity fundraisers and numerous social networking opportunities.

Even during economic downturns that crippled the construction industry, Frank successfully positioned the firm to not only overcome the challenges, but to emerge even stronger. This was mainly due to the fact that Frank had expanded into new and beneficial service areas throughout many sectors of the market. Frank has also added value to the company by always putting the personnel first which has helped GFA become renowned for its stellar customer service and reputation in the construction industry.

Mr. Kaub assumes overall responsibility for the leadership of professional Geotechnical and Engineering services for all GFA contracts as Principal-in-Charge. Mr. Kaub serves in the capacity of Executive Liaison to company clients. He is a graduate of Indiana University (White Star Endowment Scholarship Recipient) with a B.S. in Geology; is a licensed Florida Professional Geologist; and is co-founder of GFA International, Inc.

As a Florida Registered Professional Geologist, Mr. Kaub provides the services of soil exploration and report preparation; structural foundation analysis and design; offshore geotechnical studies; land surveying; hydrographic surveying; seismic and side scan sonar studies; aquifer studies; magnetometer surveys; environmental monitoring; jet probe investigations; marine geophysics; vibracore investigations; marine hydrology; water quality analysis; coastal inlet studies; environmental impact mitigation; impact assessment and devaluation; sub-bottom profiling; beach restoration and erosion control design for the company. His work has involved solving foundation and earth structure problems, conducting subsurface and subaqueous soil investigations, conducting hydrogeological studies and investigations and other earth science problems through the application of sound theoretical concepts and a practical knowledge of earth materials and hydrogeological systems.

Thomas Ortner

Executive Vice President

Mr. Thomas Ortner has over 33 years of experience in the field of construction and engineering.

As GFA’s Executive Vice President, Mr. Ortner works very closely with clients and consults with GFA team members, project managers, superintendents, architects and engineers to ensure the timely delivery of quality services and adherence to management policies, procedures and practices. Mr. Ortner performs in the capacity of Project Manager, Contract Administrator, and Supervisor.

Paul H. Danforth, P.E., Regional Vice President and a Florida registered Professional Engineer, has been providing construction materials testing services and engineering consulting for over 34 years.

His past experience has included performing the duties of threshold inspector, geotechnical engineer, structural design engineer, civil engineer, project manager, engineering technician and quality control technician. As a licensed Special Inspector under F.S. 553, Mr. Danforth has provided qualification of numerous threshold buildings.

Mr. Danforth has technical expertise in the determination of soil properties, settlement analyses, slope stability, groundwater evaluations, shallow and deep foundation design, and earthwork/site development monitoring. His management of residential, commercial and industrial geotechnical projects has included development feasibility and preliminary geotechnical studies, earthwork and foundation design, grading/compaction monitoring and construction inspection of foundations and superstructures. Mr. Danforth has performed distress analysis and remedial design for a wide variety of failure mechanisms, including: fill settlement, expansive soil and drainage related problems, slope instability and landslides, soil corrosion and groundwater issues.

He was promoted rapidly while accumulating a vast amount of practical technical knowledge which he now combines with strong leadership skills and business acumen in his work for GFA International.

Travis Merrick

As GFA’s Fort Myers Branch Manager, Travis is responsible for overseeing his staff, as well as all the work that is performed from the Fort Myers office. Travis’ background in Real Estate sales and development provide for a strong Business Development presence and a valued approach to contract negotiation and execution.

Mr. Merrick’s project management experience includes educational facilities, industrial facilities, port, aviation, commercial facilities, multi-story condominiums, and infrastructure projects. Eric Trillas

Branch Manager – Miami, Florida

Eric F. Trillas, P.E., Branch Manager and a Florida registered Professional Engineer, has been providing engineering consulting and inspection services for 10 years. As GFA’s Miami Branch Manager, Eric is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations, including working closely with GFA team members, clients, project managers, superintendents, architects and engineers to ensure the timely delivery of quality services.

His past experience has included performing the duties of structural design engineer, project manager, threshold inspector, forensic inspector and engineering technician.

Mr. Trillas has a technical expertise in structural design and inspections of low to high rise residential and commercial buildings including: Grove at Grand Bay (Coconut Grove, FL), One Thousand Museum (Miami, FL), Glass 120 Ocean (Miami Beach, FL), and Hermas Development (Doha, Qatar). His involvement of such projects has included the analyses of lateral force resisting systems, vertical load resisting systems, foundation design, and threshold inspections.
