Zoo Miami

This project consisted of the construction of a new entry to Zoo Miami along with the construction of new exhibits throughout the zoo. The new entry plaza sits on 1.5-acres and includes a gift shop and cafe, a multi-purpose event space and guest relations space. Also included with this project was the construction of a new pink flamingo exhibit and a Mission Everglades exhibit which features a hanging bridge and slide in an underwater acrylic tube through crocodile and alligator exhibits.

GFA Services
  • GFA performed a geotechnical exploration which consisted of twenty-two (22) standard penetration test (SPT) borings throughout the locations for the new entrance and exhibits. The borings were completed to depths ranging from 25 to 60 feet below existing grade. In addition, GFA completed five (5) exfiltration tests to depths of 20 feet below existing grade.
  • GFA provided licensed inspectors to complete structural inspections.
  • GFA provided engineering field technicians and a certified laboratory to complete construction materials testing for all soil, aggregate, and concrete materials used for the project.
