BLOWER DOOR & DUCT LEAKAGE TESTING
Effective July 1, 2017, The Florida Building Code now requires that each newly constructed residential building or dwelling pass a Blower Door test before the certificate of occupancy can be issued.
WHAT IS A BLOWER DOOR TEST?
A blower door is a powerful variable speed fan temporarily mounted to an exterior door frame to pull air from the house to lower the interior air pressure. With greater outside air pressure entering the house through cracks and openings, the air infiltration rate of the home is quantified, providing a way to establish the location of air leaks.
It is important to minimize air leaks by improving building tightness determined by our test to:
• Reduce energy consumption due to air leakage
• Eliminate moisture condensation problems
• Improve air quality by reducing indoor air pollutants
Mandatory blower door testing is now a requirement for residential buildings or dwelling units as contained in section R402.4.1.2 of the Florida Building Code, 5th Edition (2014) Energy 1290 Conservation.
