GFA’s Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS)
GFA International’s Environmental Health and Safety Department has the qualified staff and resources necessary to provide the general, construction and engineering industries with a variety of occupational health and safety services and products including written health and safety plans, employee monitoring (silica, noise, heat, chemical exposure, etc.), training, gap assessments and audits, and site safety assessments.
Building science services include asbestos surveys, mold and water damage assessments, post remediation assessments, lead testing, radon testing, indoor air quality assessments, and ergonomic assessments which include designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the staff members who use them.
The EHS department also offers comprehensive healthcare safety services, including:
Facility Safety: indoor air quality evaluations, industrial hygiene monitoring/employee exposure assessments, chemical inventory and safety data sheet management, personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments and respirator fit testing, water damage/mold assessments, lead testing and abatement design, asbestos sampling and abatement design, Joint Commission readiness, and chemical hygiene plans.
Disaster Planning: disaster preparedness plans and training, emergency management plans and response team training, and decontamination plans and training.
Biosafety: biosafety level 1-3 compliance, training and audits, bloodborne pathogen exposure control and compliance planning, and CDC and NIH compliance and registration.
Radioactive materials: handling, storage and transport procedures, monitoring and survey for emitters, waste disposal (sanitary sewer disposal, decay in storage, and offsite shipment), and radiation safety auditing.
Additionally, due to OSHA’s newest respirable silica standard for construction, general industry and maritime, GFA offers respirable silica courses which include but are not limited to information regarding silica dust, the OSHA standard, health effects, associated and governing entities, training objectives, reduction and control procedures, and laboratory sampling. Employees will be able to identify silica hazards and institute protective risk reduction procedures. Employers and supervisors will be able to implement appropriate safety procedures and create standard-compliant written control plans.
